Even though we constantly negotiate, many of us know very little about the strategy and psychology behind effective negotiations. When negotiating across borders or between cultures there are additional complexities that need to be managed, and this workshop will address these, as well as bust some myths with regards to the concept of cross-cultural negotiations. This workshop will give you the opportunity to develop your cross-cultural negotiation skills in a low risk learning environment, as well as to learn more about how to prepare for and how to mitigate potential pitfalls in cross-cultural negotiations.

Track and Convert

  • ETC (Emerging Technology Centers) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Pamela Fasolo and Eliot Pearson from Enradius will have a conversation about using website and mobile location data to optimize ad campaign performance for more conversions. We'll go over the new features of Google Analytics 4 and how it'll help campaign tracking and performance. We'll also discuss the importance of conversion pixel placement and tracking, what it does, what you should track, and how it helps get the most out of ad campaigns. We'll also touch on location based mobile data, and how the technology can help you add to your advertising campaigns. For those with brick and mortar locations, the mobile data allows businesses to see information on people who are at their location based on their cell phone data. Being able to see things like where in person visitors came from, what brands they're loyal to, where they go before and after, and any other behavioral mosaic cluster, business owners can add geofencing locations, or new behavioral segments.

Baltimore Community Change Project 2010 - 2020

  • ETC (Emerging Technology Centers) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Historians may well mark the decade that just passed as one of the most tumultuous for Baltimore—from a housing market crisis to civil and racial unrest to political scandal to a global pandemic—which culminated in the 7th decade of overall population loss based on the results of the 2020 Census. With 20 years of community-based data, the Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance (BNIA) embarked on the “Baltimore Community Change Project 2010-2020” that shows a clear pattern of neighborhoods diverging apart, creating a dual reality of "Two Baltimores" where some neighborhoods are growing and getting all kinds of resources, but others are not. No one can afford — not ethically, psychologically, or financially — this kind of “enduring divergence” (to keep pulling apart) if we want a more just and equitable future for Baltimore.

Success in tourism and hospitality has always been based upon positive human interactions, but when the pandemic made in-person contact impossible, the industry had to pivot and find ways to deliver those memorable interactions in new ways. Even with in-person visits on the rise, some smaller attractions and venues have discovered that the use of the technology discovered out of necessity may still be an important asset in the future.

An Ecosystems Approach to Movement Building

  • ETC (Emerging Technology Centers) (map)

Most entrepreneurs and small business owners lack access to the resources and supports necessary to start, stabilize and grow their enterprises, particularly in systemically marginalized communities. There are new models being developed and deployed to aim resources directly at the ground to connect and mobilize people to build the power to bring economic development to communities that have been struggling to survive for generations. Paulo Gregory, the Steward of the The Black Butterfly Network, will share how Cohado® utilizes a community organizing model to link Black businesses to work collaboratively to strengthen businesses through peer support, and evolve a networked movement of entrepreneurs to initiate focused community development.

Technical.ly looks back on 10 years of covering Baltimore tech and innovation

2022 marks a full decade since Technical.ly began covering Baltimore's tech, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. As CEO Chris Wink wrote in a recent retrospective, "Technical.ly’s goal was simple: narrate, challenge and help connect the growing efforts to modernize Baltimore’s economy — and do it with a journalistic approach." A lot has happened to Technical.ly and Baltimore in that time (including a foundational role in Baltimore Innovation Week's inception!), but the focus on community journalism about Baltimore's tech and startup ecosystem remains. This panel features former and current Baltimore-focused Technical.ly journalists speaking about their respective tenures, the past decade's ups and downs and what it all means for Baltimore's present and future. None of this perspective would've been possible without the local community's enthusiastic support for our work, so this panel is as much a celebration of our role in this scene as yours in helping us thrive.

Branding Your Story: How to Share a Visceral Experience

A brand is more than a company’s identity. Branding defines your North Star, your mission, purpose, intent, voice, tone, position, value, and values. It defines who you champion, what you support, and the aesthetic that reflects these elements. It’s your reputation, the seed we cultivate into the experience we want to be remembered. This presentation teaches you how to build the elements necessary in order to tell a story like a brand architect so that your brand and its experience are positioned, valued, trusted, and loved.

The Startup Studio Model: Capitalizing on MD’s Strengths and Resources to Build Health and Med Tech Companies

  • ETC (Emerging Technology Centers) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The MDC Studio is a startup studio in Baltimore, MD, dedicated to building health and medical technology companies from the earliest stages (even a “napkin sketch”!). We provide hands-on business, engineering, and fundraising support in parallel to help researchers, clinicians, and other inventors to transition their ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace. Dr. Nao Gamo, the Vice President of Business Development at the MDC Studio and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of NeuroSonics Medical, will lead a panel discussion on building medical technology startups. Our goal is to capitalize on the strengths of Baltimore and Maryland’s rich research talent and entrepreneurial ecosystem, while filling in any gaps, and develop impactful technologies that can transform lives both here and abroad. Since being founded in 2016 by eight clinicians and an engineer, the MDC Studio has explored dozens of technologies, filed numerous patents, created 13 companies (with more in the pipeline), and raised around $15M in funding for its portfolio companies.
